Material Control, Intangible Control marks the first individual exhibition hosted at the URIBITARTE40 Hall by artist and former BilbaoArte grant holder Jorge Isla. The exhibition is structured around a large-scale installation and a set of seven works that challenge conventional norms of art production, subverting status through themes of reality versus fiction, presence versus absence, and cause versus effect. Isla’s practice engages with the commodification of art within consumer society, questioning how artistic value is recognized and assigned market worth. By utilizing appropriation and incorporating 'poor' materials into his sculptural and pictorial research, Isla seeks to remove his work from traditional exhibition formats. The exhibition reflects on the tension between the original and the copy, as well as the distinction between public and private realms. Through these conceptual explorations, the artist aims to find new signifiers for objects and practices that are often taken for granted in contemporary discourse.
Admission to the exhibition is free of charge for the general public. Opening hours are from Tuesday to Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Sundays and holidays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Programs such as guided tours and film screenings are also free, subject to seat availability.
