Exhibition summary

This exhibition explores the evolving dialogue between visual arts, literature, and photography, focusing on the ambiguous frontier between reality and fiction. Curated by Inés R. Artola, the project features sixteen artists who interpret the necessity of fiction through their works and literary influences.

Curatorial context

Ficciones: Poéticas y Narrativas Detrás de una Cámara presents a deep reflection on the tension between truth and invention in visual arts. Developed in collaboration with the Association of Contemporary Art Galleries of Málaga (MAGA), the exhibition investigates how images and literature intersect to shape our perception of reality. The curation is organized around a dialogue across three distinct levels: the visual artworks themselves, the literary quotes that inspired each creator, and the unique artistic voices of the sixteen participants. Many of these works were conceived specifically for this exhibition, offering new narratives that invite viewers to imagine beyond the frame. The project emphasizes the concept that fiction does not merely accompany reality, but renders it more intelligible and poetic. By presenting a collection of visual stories, the exhibition acts as a bridge between intimate personal universes and broader cultural themes, reminding visitors of the fundamental role storytelling plays in the human experience. Through this curated selection, the show underscores the idea that without fiction, the experience of the world would be significantly diminished.
