Experience the My Slice of the Cake Contemporary Art Exhibition at MUCAC La Coracha

In 'My Slice of the Cake' (Mi Porción del Pastel), artist Verónica Ruth Frías critiques the systemic exclusion of women from the history of art. By creating a literal consumption of artworks by canonical masters such as Botticelli, Van Gogh, and Picasso, the artist performs an act of defiance, reclaiming spaces traditionally occupied by men. This work marks a transition for the artist, moving from being a passive subject or muse to an active creator and narrator of her own history. Verónica Ruth Frías (born 1978) is known for her acid, critical, and performative practice. Utilizing disguise, makeup, and camouflage, she investigates power dynamics and gender roles. This exhibition specifically highlights her capacity to subvert historical narratives and give voice to silenced women artists.
