Story of Stars: A Creative Astronomy Art Exhibition in Oxford

Story of Stars is an exhibition showcasing new 2D and 3D artworks created by participants from Wood Farm and Larkrise Primary Schools. In collaboration with the History of Science Museum, Oxford, the young creators explored historic astronomical instruments to produce pieces reflecting on the cosmos and the human place in the universe.

Story of Stars is a collaborative exhibition presented in the Window Galleries, born from a creative partnership between Fusion Arts, the 'Story Makers' project, and the History of Science Museum, Oxford. Over the course of the project, participants from Wood Farm and Larkrise Primary Schools engaged deeply with the museum's collection of historic astronomical instruments. Through hands-on methods such as object handling, movement, and sound exploration, the children connected with these scientific artifacts to contemplate humanity's relationship with the universe. The resulting exhibition features a diverse array of new artworks, ranging from detailed drawings and 3D models to large-scale canvases depicting celestial bodies. This creative output is further enriched by original poetry written by the participants, which offers personal responses to their time spent with the historical collections. The project highlights the power of imagination and hands-on engagement in bridging the gap between historical scientific study and contemporary artistic expression, fostered by the guidance of Arts Psychotherapist Helen Edwards.

The exhibition is located at the Fusion Arts Window Galleries, Friar's Entry, Oxford. No booking information is required as it is presented in the gallery's public-facing window display space.
