The Ultimate Picture Palace has launched a creative partnership with the Ruskin School of Art, bringing an eclectic selection of student short films to its single-screen historic auditorium. Following an initial showcase last February, these imaginative works are now being shared with a broader audience. Over an eight-week span, visitors attending regular evening programs will experience these curated shorts as previews before feature presentations.
Showcasing Local Student Filmmakers Ahead of Feature Screenings
The partnership highlights the fresh perspectives of emerging artists from the local community, pairing student shorts with complementary feature films.
- Cowsmos (Directed by Yolanda Zhou): A surreal, 2-minute journey inspired by UFO conspiracy tropes, preceding screenings of DJ Ahmet.
- Untitled (Directed by Isabella Lucas): A 4-minute piece exploring the aesthetics of quiet luxury and material perfection, preceding The Drama.
- A Perfect Shade of Pink (Directed by Yao Mou, composed by Richard Meehan): A 7-minute "pig’s soliloquy" examining consumption and exploitation, preceding Raoul Peck's documentary Orwell: 2+2=5.
- In the Lightest Form of Being (Directed by Siyu Chen): A 7-minute anthropological dreamscape featuring taxidermy and shimmering costumes, preceding The Blue Trail.
- Letters to Living Islands (Directed by Naiya Ellis-Woodward, with compositions by Scott Wearing): A 5-minute tone poem blending satellite imagery and natural landscapes of the Outer Hebrides, preceding The North.
