Galleries guide you through the intricate processes of excavation and scientific conservation. This immersive environment details the ancient river trade that shaped the city. Exploring these hulls provides a unique connection to the region's rich heritage in the heart of Pisa.

The history of the Museum of Ancient Ships of Pisa began in 1998, when construction work near the San Rossore station uncovered an *exceptional sequence of Roman-period shipwrecks*. Waterlogged conditions preserved the vessels and their associated cargoes, allowing for unprecedented insight into ancient trade and harbour life. Following two decades of meticulous restoration, the museum opened in 2019 within the city's sixteenth-century Medici Arsenals. This site now preserves approximately thirty ancient vessels.
