Curatorial context

The BERG Orchestra opens its new season with the highly anticipated Czech premiere of 'WhatsPop', a "psychedelico-lyrical fresco" by French composer Aurélien Dumont. This performance is a vibrant exploration at the intersection of contemporary music, pop culture, philosophy, and literature. The piece features an exceptionally demanding vocal part that navigates a wide array of musical styles and vocal registers, ranging from Renaissance influences to modern rock and noise. Adding to its unique character, the performance incorporates unusual "instruments" such as a toaster, typewriter, and hairdryer. A central element of 'WhatsPop' is the dialogue between the singer and a selected personality; for this premiere, the guest will be music journalist Pavel Klusák. The BERG Orchestra itself is a distinguished Czech ensemble renowned for performing contemporary music, having commissioned and premiered nearly three hundred new works and having received the prestigious Prix Italia award.
