Exhibition summary

Jakub Berdych Karpelis's exhibition 'Bazaar Bizaar' presents a fragmented whole composed of the memories of other objects, primarily components originally intended for different types of light fixtures. These elements enter a new, open system, creating objects that balance between design and art.

Curatorial context

The exhibition 'Bazaar Bizaar' by Jakub Berdych Karpelis constructs a situation and a consciously fragmented whole—an object composed of the memory of other objects. Individual components, originally intended for different types of light fixtures, lose their original functional and aesthetic hierarchy here and enter a new, open system. The principle of 'assembly' is not merely a technical gesture but a semantic shift: a chandelier becomes a collage, a spatial assemblage where decor, industrial detail, and ornamental excess meet. The resulting objects balance between design and art, between useful form and its deconstruction. Dadaist logic of chance and surprising connections is present, but it is not random—on the contrary, it is precisely composed. The result is a visually rich, slightly absurd whole that challenges our expectations of a classic chandelier as a symbol of order, symmetry, and representation. In the installation for DOX by Qubus, the object further emancipates itself: it serves not only as a light source but as a situation in space. The viewer finds themselves under a structure that is not definitive but rather in process—as if it could be disassembled and reassembled differently at any time.
