The fourth edition of the Biennale Matter of Art, titled "Necessary Wishes," will feature an international exhibition and public program across three main locations in Prague and Pardubice. The curatorial approach focuses on necessity as a vital force and guiding principle for decision-making, exploring art as an instinctive, embodied response to lived conditions.
The fourth edition of the Biennale Matter of Art, under the title "Necessary Wishes," is scheduled to take place from June 12 to September 13, 2026. This international exhibition and its accompanying public program will be hosted across three principal locations: The Great Hall of the Trade Fair Palace in Prague, GAMPA – City Gallery Pardubice, and Tusculum Prague. The curatorial direction, developed by Jaroslava Tomanová, Jakub Gawkowski, and František Fekete, is grounded in the concept of necessity as a fundamental driving force and political compass for human decisions. Art is presented not merely as an aesthetic choice, a commodity, or a professionalized pursuit, but as an innate, embodied reaction to the realities of existence—an unavoidable element embedded within the fabric of daily life and its political dimensions.
