This permanent exhibition showcases the history of transportation, featuring a wide array of historical vehicles across land, water, and air. Visitors can explore early automobiles, motorcycles, aircraft, and railway technology, including significant Czech-made innovations.
The permanent exhibition 'Transportation' at the National Technical Museum is a popular highlight, dedicated to the pioneers of land, water, and air travel. The "transportation hall" brings to life the world of older technology, featuring early automobiles with combustion and steam engines, a wide range of motorcycles from the late 19th century to the present, and various samples of railway technology. Suspended from the ceiling are aircraft, including a hot-air balloon basket, Jan Kašpar's glider, the aeroplane used for the first long-haul flight in the Czech lands, and unique historical aeroplanes like the Anatra DS, Traktor, and Zlín Z XIII recreations.
The exhibit details the historical development of automobile, motorcycle, cycling, aviation, and boat transportation through separate narratives. It also includes smaller exhibits on the history of railway transportation and the development of fire-brigade technology in the Czech lands, showcasing both domestic and imported machines. The narrative emphasizes the rich and globally remarkable story of domestic production, highlighting key items such as the 1898 NW President car, the first automobile manufactured in the Czech lands, and the 1911 Kašpar JK plane used for the first long-distance flight in Czech aviation. Also featured are the 1935 Tatra 80 automobile used by President T. G. Masaryk and a 1945 Supermarine Spitfire LF Mk.IXE fighter returned to Czechoslovakia by Czech pilots.
