Henrik Ibsen's masterpiece 'Hedda Gabler' is brought to life in a new production directed by Viktor Bodó. The play explores themes of female strength, darkness, and the entanglement of past and present.
This new production of Henrik Ibsen's seminal play, 'Hedda Gabler', delves into the complex character of Hedda, the proud daughter of General Gabler, known for her love of horse riding, piano, and pistol shooting. Upon returning from a long honeymoon, Hedda and her new husband, the aspiring historian Jörgen Tesman, move into a lavish mansion. However, the past soon intrudes with the arrival of Tea Elvsted and Eilert Løvborg, Tesman’s former rival and Hedda's old flame. Løvborg, who has overcome past struggles with addiction and published a new book with Tea's support, becomes a catalyst for Hedda's descent into darkness as her own aspirations crumble.
Directed by Viktor Bodó, renowned for his masterful use of grotesque elements and pop culture references, this production promises a unique take on Ibsen’s 1890 masterpiece. Bodó, often dubbed the ‘Quentin Tarantino of contemporary theatre’, brings his distinctive style to this globally recognized play, exploring the psychological depths of Hedda and her reckoning with the world and those around her.
