Exhibition summary

FLAESH is an exhibition exploring figurative art by five prominent female artists: Marlene Dumas, Tracey Emin, Berlinde De Bruyckere, Kiki Smith, and Louise Bourgeois. The exhibition delves into themes of individual identity, inner life, and emotional expression through various mediums.

Curatorial context

The exhibition FLAESH centers on the theme of figurative art as explored through the works of five influential female artists: Marlene Dumas, Tracey Emin, Berlinde De Bruyckere, Kiki Smith, and Louise Bourgeois. The collection of over sixty sculptures, drawings, watercolors, embroideries, and installations critically questions the role and image of the human body in contemporary art, considering it as a reflection of inner life, a canvas for modern dogmas, and a means to express difficult emotions arising from historical events or personal tragedies. Each artist is presented in a dedicated gallery space, forming five individual exhibitions that also serve as interpretive keys for each other. The exhibition was developed in close collaboration with the artists, their studios, and galleries. Accompanying the exhibition is a bilingual catalog (Czech and English) featuring an introductory essay by the curator, Petr Nedoma, and reproductions of all displayed works. Video projections of interviews with the artists provide further insight into their work and thought processes.

The last admission to the exhibition is 30 minutes before closing time. Visitors without enough time may return at another date as admission is voluntary.
