Exhibition summary

This exhibition brings together six painters from three generations to explore painting's reflection of contemporary questions, cultural impulses, and the rapid distribution of data. The artists deconstruct or fragment unity, generalizing the uncertainty of the unknown through various forms of painting articulation.

Curatorial context

The exhibition "The Butterfly Effect? The Image as Multidirectional Deconstruction of the Whole" delves into the complex realities of contemporary life, where cultural impulses and historical traces are overlaid and rapidly distributed, making their origins difficult to identify. Six painters, representing three distinct generations, respond to this situation by seeking to deconstruct or fragment the disappearing notion of unity and common certainty. Each artist utilizes diverse painting articulations to present the uncertainty of the unknown, offering a glimpse into a broader transformation whose regularities remain ill-understood. The title metaphorically references the principle of basis and result, with the question mark highlighting the multiplication and mirroring of questions posed by the artists within the foundational layers of their works. In an era where relating to the world is increasingly complicated, the exhibition prompts reflection on causality and consequence. It questions whether a model situation is sufficient for understanding this complexity, or if imagination, the shared tool of art and science, is key to developing new designations and revitalizing creative inquiry.
