Remembering Founding Figures and Lasting Legacies
The museum recently marked the passing of two foundational members, Bjarni H. Þórarinsson (1947–2025) and Kristján Guðmundsson (1941–2025). Both artists played instrumental roles in shaping the institution since its establishment by artists in 1978. Their creative legacies remain deeply integrated into the fabric of the museum, with several of their significant works preserved permanently within the institution's extensive archive of Icelandic artist-led practice.
