Celebrating Icelandic Musical Heritage at Salurinn Concert Hall
Salurinn Concert Hall recently hosted a warmly received musical tribute dedicated to the beloved songs of composer Sigfús Halldórsson. Presented as a special event for senior citizens courtesy of the Kópavogur Arts and Culture Council, the performance brought together two prominent figures in the local arts community to celebrate a cornerstone of national songcraft.
An Intimate Tribute to Sigfús Halldórsson in Kópavogur
The programme, titled Amor & asninn, featured actor Örn Árnason alongside pianist and organist Jónas Þórir. Árnason delivered heartfelt renditions of Halldórsson’s most cherished compositions, weaving the musical pieces together with historical anecdotes about the creation of the songs and the poets who collaborated with the composer. To enhance the experience for the audience, archival photographs of Halldórsson, the poets, and the subjects of the songs were projected on a screen during the performance.
Accompanying the vocal performances, Jónas Þórir played the venue's Steinway grand piano. Having known and performed alongside Halldórsson in his youth, Þórir honored the late composer's distinct playing style throughout the concert. The afternoon concluded with a collective sing-along of the classic piece "Við eigum samleið," leaving attendees with a memorable and uplifting musical experience.
