Salurinn Concert Hall Hosts 30 Pianists for Complete Beethoven Sonata Cycle in Kópavogur
Classical music enthusiasts visiting the Salurinn Concert Hall can experience a rare musical undertaking as an ensemble of approximately thirty pianists gathers to perform all 32 of Ludwig van Beethoven's piano sonatas. Marking the composer's 250th anniversary, the monumental works—often referred to as the New Testament of piano literature—are spread across a series of nine concerts.
Experiencing Beethoven's Piano Sonatas at Salurinn
Conceived by pianist Jónas Ingimundarson and brought to life in collaboration with the venue, the concert series offers audiences a comprehensive overview of pieces composed between 1795 and 1827. While some sonatas are rarely performed locally due to their intense technical difficulty, others are widely recognized from popular culture and films.
The opening performance features pre-recorded interpretations of Piano Sonata No. 2 in A major and Piano Sonata No. 28 in A major by US-based pianists Kristín Jónína Taylor and Bryan Stanley. Following the free opening event, the remaining eight programs take place on Tuesday evenings alongside the venue's Tíbrá concert series.
