Salurinn Concert Hall Welcomes Classical Chamber Music Series in Reykjavik
Salurinn Concert Hall in Kópavogur is expanding its upcoming musical offerings through a new partnership with the Association of Icelandic Musicians (FÍT classical division). The venue will host a five-concert chamber series for the 2023–2024 season, shifting the program's traditional home to the concert hall.
A New Home for Chamber Music in Reykjavik
Previously known as Klassík í Vatnsmýrinni, the established concert series spent fifteen years performing at various local venues, including Kjarvalstaðir, the Nordic House, and the Sigurjón Ólafsson Museum. Under the new agreement, the program rebrands as Klassík í Salnum and finds a permanent residence for its winter schedule.
Aino Freyja, director of Salurinn, notes that the venue's purpose-built acoustics make it a natural fit for classical chamber performances. Designed specifically for optimal sound quality, the concert hall aims to support local artists while fostering deeper public engagement with classical composition.

Audiences attending the upcoming winter series can anticipate ambitious programs featuring prominent classical performers from Iceland. FÍT chairperson Margrét Hrafnsdóttir highlights that the program places special emphasis on premiering new Icelandic chamber works, serving as an important incubator for contemporary composition and local talent.
