Salurinn Concert Hall in Kópavogur has announced multi-instrumentalist, composer, and improviser Davíð Þór Jónsson as its resident artist. The appointment places a strong focus on spontaneous composition and live experimentation, anchored by a series of major performances hosted at Salurinn Concert Hall.

As part of the residency, Davíð Þór will present a trilogy of major improvisation concerts stretching across several months. The opening performance of this series is scheduled for International Jazz Day, bringing a dynamic exploration of spontaneous sound to the venue's stage.
The residency forms an integral component of Salurinn’s ongoing composer commissioning initiative, which has previously invited diverse musical voices to craft new works for the venue—ranging from contemporary string quartets to audio pieces inspired by the sonic environment of Kópavogur. Supported by the Kópavogur Council for Culture and Arts, the project highlights the vibrant performance culture found just outside the capital.

Born in 1978, Davíð Þór is widely recognized as one of the country's most versatile musicians, with a career spanning piano performance, scoring, and conducting. His extensive portfolio includes international festival appearances, collaborative stage and film work, and celebrated scores for acclaimed projects like Hross í oss (Of Horses and Men) and Kona fer í stríð (Woman at War).
