Celebrating Milestones: Salurinn Concert Hall Launches Söngverk ’24 Composition Project in Kópavogur
As Salurinn Concert Hall approaches its 25th anniversary, Iceland's pioneering purpose-designed concert venue has announced a special creative initiative. Known as a vibrant cultural anchor on Kópavogur's Culture Hill, the venue is inviting composers to submit ideas for new musical works tailored for a children's choir, with scheduled premieres set for the autumn of 2024.
Crafting New Music for Kópavogur's Milestone Celebration
The upcoming project centers around core themes of turning points and celebration, though participating creators are given creative freedom beyond these broad guidelines. Composers of all backgrounds, genders, and experience levels are encouraged to apply, provided they bring a solid background in composition that will support the realization of the piece.
A dedicated selection committee will review all submissions, with final decisions communicated to applicants. Compensation for selected compositions will follow the standard rates set by the Icelandic Composers' Society.
Interested applicants must submit a concise project concept description of up to 400 words along with a brief personal introduction to Salurinn’s official email address. The application window remains open through November 17, 2023.
