Bjarmaband brings to light the significant life's work of Frosti Fjalar, who formerly exhibited under the name Jakob Jónsson. After an active period in the 1970s and 1980s, the artist withdrew from public view to continue his practice with remarkable focus and consistency, resulting in a vast collection of nearly six thousand watercolours and eight hundred paintings. His visual language is rooted in geometry, where vertical and horizontal lines establish a sense of movement and internal rhythm that defines his artistic legacy. Throughout his career, Fjalar explored the boundaries of the canvas by cutting coloured fragments and attaching them directly to the surface, creating tactile, almost sculptural works that challenge traditional painting. Educated in both art and engineering, his works reflect a unique intersection of technical precision and artistic sensitivity. Following his passing during the preparation of this project, the exhibition serves as a poignant return of his disciplined, colourful, and rhythmic world to the public eye, displayed within the museum's Sverrissalur hall.
