Exhibition summary

As the first temporary exhibition at the renovated Zoological Museum of Strasbourg, 'BiodiverCity' explores the coexistence of humans and animals in urban environments. Featuring illustrations by Valentine Plessy, the exhibition invites visitors to reconsider the city as a complex and shared ecosystem.

Curatorial context

The exhibition 'BiodiverCity' functions as a thoughtful promenade through the intersection of urban life and wildlife. While urban spaces are often perceived as devoid of nature, this exhibition highlights the reality that various species live alongside humans daily. By focusing on this local biodiversity, it challenges visitors to think critically about our ongoing relationship with the living world amidst environmental crises and the high density of modern urban populations. The project is brought to life through the work of naturalistic illustrator Valentine Plessy, whose drawings provide a visual rhythm throughout the space. The exhibition also features a unique scenography designed by students from the Higher School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg (HEAR), reflecting a collaborative partnership between academic and cultural institutions. The curatorial team includes Simon Malivoire de Camas and Samuel Cordier, with significant scientific input regarding ecology and urban wildlife management provided by city experts.
