Exhibition summary

The MUSMIG Space at the Otto Wagner Areal is a dedicated thinking and curatorial room established by the Museum of Migration collective to explore future possibilities for a migration museum in Austria. It serves as an open, collective environment for antiracist gathering, discussion, and participatory exhibition processes.

Curatorial context

The MUSMIG Space is a new curatorial initiative at the Austrian Museum of Folk Life and Folk Art, hosted in Pavilion 1 of the Otto Wagner Areal. Since 2019, a collective of historians, sociologists, cultural scientists, artists, and activists has been working toward the creation of a dedicated museum of migration in Austria. This space represents a manifestation of that ambition, moving away from static, monolithic exhibition models to instead provide a dynamic forum for critical reflection and community engagement. Visitors are invited into a flexible, evolving environment designed to facilitate dialogue on collective and antiracist exhibition processes. Rather than presenting a finished history, the space functions as a 'thinking room' where the future of collecting and displaying migration narratives is continuously negotiated. The project is supported by the Museum of Folk Life and Folk Art and features ongoing programming aimed at fostering collaborative and inclusive cultural practices.

Admission and ticket notes

The space is located in Pavilion 1 of the Otto Wagner Areal. It is open to the public from Tuesday to Friday, 10:00 to 17:00.
