The Beethoven Pasqualatihaus, located at Mölker Bastei 8 in Vienna, houses a compact biographical exhibition dedicated to Ludwig van Beethoven. Visitors can explore his life and work, particularly his time spent composing significant pieces like "Für Elise" and parts of his 5th and 6th Symphonies in this historically preserved building.

Curatorial context

Ludwig van Beethoven resided in Vienna for many years, moving numerous times. His longest period of stay was in the house at Mölker Bastei 8, where he spent eight years and composed significant works including the opera "Fidelio" and his famous piano piece "Für Elise." The rooms opposite his former apartment on the fourth floor now host a concise biographical exhibition detailing the life of the renowned composer. The location itself, Mölker Bastei, is a unique site in Vienna. The building block stands on remnants of the 16th-century Viennese city fortifications, most of which were demolished during the construction of the Ringstrasse. The historical cobblestone streets, the narrow Baroque and Biedermeier houses, and the varied building heights have remained largely unchanged since Beethoven's time. It was within this historical ensemble that Beethoven also worked on his 5th and 6th Symphonies, further cementing the site's connection to his creative legacy.
