Curatorial context

The exhibition 'Sondermodelle. Die 387 Häuser des Peter Fritz' presents the remarkable life's work of Peter Fritz, an unassuming Viennese insurance official who secretly built hundreds of model houses in his apartment. These models are idealised representations of Austrian architectural styles from the 1950s to the 1970s. Fritz's work remained unknown to the art scene until after his death, when Oliver Croy discovered it at a Viennese antique dealer. In collaboration with Oliver Elser, Croy initiated a traveling exhibition, a publication, and comprehensive research into Fritz's models. The Wien Museum acquired the collection in 2007, and it has since been displayed in numerous international exhibitions, highlighting Fritz's unique contribution to architectural representation.
