Inflammation was a film program by KUNSTVEREIN GARTENHAUS and Kunstraum Niederoesterreich, in partnership with Klima Biennale Wien. The program used the biological phenomenon of inflammation as a metaphor for planetary ecological transformations such as wildfires and global warming, considering them as healing processes.
The film program 'Inflammation', jointly conceived by KUNSTVEREIN GARTENHAUS and Kunstraum Niederoesterreich in partnership with the Klima Biennale Wien, uses the biological phenomenon of inflammation as a metaphor for the current planetary condition. Inflammations, characterized by swelling and redness, are primarily protective bodily responses that clear damaged cells, initiate repair, and eliminate injury, thus securing the organism's integrity. The program applies this concept to foreground various forms of ecological transformations, including wildfires, desertification, and global warming, interpreting them as essential healing processes of the planetary body.
Artists featured in the program included Alice Bucknell, Steph Holl-Trieu, Shuang Li, and Cauleen Smith. The program was curated by Attilia Fattori Franchini and Frederike Sperling and took place on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Kunstraum Niederoesterreich in Vienna.
