This exhibition, part of the 'Is Queer Political' Project, examines the societal implications and international impacts of queer cultural production. It showcases artistic works that analyze patriarchal normativity, hegemonic hierarchies, and capitalist structures, reflecting on politics as a spectrum from state governance to everyday micro-political patterns.
The QUEER MUSEUM VIENNA presents "IS QUEER POLITICAL?", an exhibition stemming from its first open call for artistic positions that question the political dimensions of queerness. The project delves into the societal implications and potential impacts of queer cultural production on a global scale. It features artistic works designed to reflect on, analyze, and criticize patriarchal normativity, hegemonic hierarchies, and capitalist structures, viewing politics as a broad spectrum that encompasses everything from national governance to intimate, everyday micro-political patterns and the regulation of desire.
In light of global backlashes against queer lives and rights, and the pervasive neoliberal structures that fuel social disparities, this exhibition highlights daring art that challenges conventional narratives. It aims to develop ideas for new utopias and foster transnational solidarity by showcasing diverse artistic perspectives. The exhibition opening included speeches and performances by Dejan Klement, Michal Rutz, Damien Thorn, and a surprise guest, with music by DJ das_em. The exhibition is presented within the "Shift" project.
