Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam Announces 2025 Research Fellowships
The Allard Pierson Museum, a prominent cultural institution in Amsterdam, is once again inviting national and international researchers to apply for its annual stipends. These fellowships offer an opportunity for in-depth study, supporting scholarly work for a maximum duration of three months. Aspiring fellows should note the application deadline is set for October 1, 2024, for projects intended for 2025.
Fostering Deep Research into Historical Collections
The museum's commitment to academic exploration is evident in the diverse range of fellowships on offer, reflecting the breadth and depth of its vast collections. For 2025, a variety of specialized areas are highlighted, from historical cartography and papyri studies to the history of food and nutrition, and literary collections. Specific fellowships include dedicated opportunities for the Doopsgezinde Bibliotheek, a Piet and Etty Sijpesteijn fellowship for papyri, and a Fund for Historical Cartography.
Further areas of focus include the Joop Frankvoort-van der Meer fellowship for circus collections, the Louise O. Fresco fellowship for food history, and an Allard Pierson fellowship specifically for cartography. Provenance research is also supported through a dedicated Allard Pierson fellowship, alongside the Vanessa Steenbergen - Titchmarsh fellowship for the Allard Pierson Artis Library, the Reinjan Mulder fellowship for literary collections, and the Euphemia fellowship for fine prints before 1800. The Allard Pierson Friends fellowship also contributes to this rich program.
These fellowships underscore the museum’s role not just as a repository of cultural heritage but as an active center for advanced research. The work undertaken by these fellows enriches our understanding of the past and contributes to the ongoing interpretation of the museum's extensive holdings.
