New Leadership for the Dutch Resistance Museum Amsterdam's Supervisory Board
The Dutch Resistance Museum Amsterdam is set to welcome new leadership to its Supervisory Board starting July 1, 2025. Mascha ten Bruggencate will assume the role of Chair, while Amrish Shah joins as a new board member, also taking on the chairmanship of the audit committee.
Effective July 1, 2025, Mascha ten Bruggencate will become the new Chair of the Supervisory Board. Ms. Ten Bruggencate brings a wealth of experience, having studied political science and worked in international banking before serving as a D66 municipal councilor and district chair in Amsterdam. She currently holds the position of mayor of Heiloo and has broad board and supervisory experience within the non-profit sector. Her family's history of involvement in the WWII resistance provides a personal connection to the museum's mission.
She succeeds Jozias van Aartsen, who has served as Chair since April 2020. Director Liesbeth van der Horst expressed enthusiasm for Ms. Ten Bruggencate's appointment, noting her capabilities and the strong team she will form with the incoming successor to the director. Ms. Ten Bruggencate shared her personal pride in her grandparents' role in saving people during WWII by providing refuge on a boat, emphasizing the importance of continuing to highlight these resistance stories as examples for the present day.
A Focus on the Future of Remembrance in Amsterdam
The museum's leadership transition comes at a time of continued importance for understanding the Dutch experience during World War II. New board members with diverse backgrounds can contribute fresh perspectives to how the museum connects with its audience and preserves its vital narratives for future generations. The museum, known for its focus on daily choices and personal stories during wartime, aims to keep these lessons relevant for all visitors.
Joining the Supervisory Board alongside Ms. Ten Bruggencate is Amrish Shah, who will also chair the audit committee. Mr. Shah is a seasoned finance professional with extensive expertise in financial management, governance, risk management, and organizational transformation. His background includes roles as Chief Financial Officer at Metabolic and Group Controller at Climate-Kic, both international organizations focused on sustainability. He has also held various financial leadership positions at prominent companies such as Endemol Shine Group, Kao, Royal Wessanen, Staples, O’Neill, and Unilever. The Supervisory Board anticipates that Mr. Shah's analytical skills, broad administrative experience, and fresh perspective will significantly complement the existing expertise within the board.
