Caravaggio-Bernini: Exploring Baroque Art and Masterpieces in Rome

This exhibition explored the beginnings of Baroque art in Rome, focusing on the masterpieces of painter Caravaggio and sculptor Bernini. It showcased over 70 works that highlight the artistic revolution and fraternalism between painters and sculptors in Rome between 1600 and 1640.

Caravaggio-Bernini. Baroque in Rome presented a vibrant look at the flourishing artistic scene in Rome during the first decades of the 17th century. The exhibition focused on two revolutionary artists: painter Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, known for his intense chiaroscuro and naturalism, and sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini, celebrated for his dramatic and vital sculptures. Together with their contemporaries, they ignited an artistic revolution that would later be named 'Baroque'. The exhibition featured over 70 masterpieces, including Caravaggio's 'Narcissus' and 'Boy Bitten by a Lizard', alongside Bernini's sculptures like 'Medusa' and 'Bacchus'. The works highlighted the artistic collaboration and innovation of the period, with themes such as wonderment, vivacity, and motion explored through paintings and sculptures. The exhibition design by Studio Formafantasma aimed to complement the powerful 17th-century art with an elegant and understated style.
