Exhibition summary

This exhibition at the Noord-Hollands Archief showcases the best submissions from a public call for images representing Noord-Holland through the eyes of its residents. The selected photographs and lithographs offer unique perspectives on the province's landscapes, nature, and relationship with water.

Curatorial context

Opened on July 24, 2024, 'Jouw Noord-Holland' is displayed in the Archiefcafé of the Janskerk, featuring top entries from a public submission campaign. This initiative was part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Provinciale Atlas Noord-Holland collection, which is managed by the Noord-Hollands Archief. The campaign invited the public to submit images that characterize Noord-Holland, resulting in nearly 300 submissions. A jury selected ten photographs and one lithograph for the exhibition, highlighting diverse aspects of the province such as dunes, beaches, forests, tulip fields, windmills, and the relationship with water, often reflecting a strong connection to nature. The exhibition provides a rich variety of perspectives on how residents experience and appreciate Noord-Holland. The featured images capture everything from the dynamic coastline and serene polder landscapes to historical windmills and modern urban architecture, with each photograph telling a distinct story. Many of the newly acquired objects for the collection, including those from this public action, will be incorporated into the Provinciale Atlas Noord-Holland collection, which comprises over 73,000 objects accessible via the NHA's image bank.
