The Rijksmuseum Gardens and interior hosted the first solo exhibition in the Netherlands by Korean artist Lee Ufan, known for his concept of 'art of the encounter'. The exhibition presented nine iconic stone and metal sculptures, designed to foster quiet reflection and dialogue with their natural and architectural surroundings. Seven sculptures were located in the gardens, with one placed inside the museum. Several key works were recreated specifically for this presentation. Lee Ufan is a co-founder of the Mono-ha (School of Things) movement, which explores the relationship between objects and space using raw materials. Beyond sculpture, Lee Ufan is also recognized as a poet, philosopher, and painter, with his work held in major international collections. This exhibition marked the eleventh edition in a series of annual solo sculpture presentations at the Rijksmuseum, following in the footsteps of artists like Henry Moore and Alexander Calder. The curatorial team for the Lee Ufan exhibition included guest curator Alfred Pacquement and Rijksmuseum curator Mels Evers. The presentation was made possible with support from the Don Quixote Foundation/Rijksmuseum Fund, Pon, and the Rijksmuseum Club.
