Curatorial context

From April 18th to May 3rd, the National Maritime Museum invites families to explore its diverse offerings during the May holiday. A central 'Kijktocht' (sightseeing tour) is available daily, guiding visitors through the museum's various sections, from its outer reaches to its interior. Complementing this, several hands-on activities are scheduled: an 'Inloopworkshop' allows visitors of all ages to create personalized bag charms or keychains inspired by maritime knots, available daily from 11:00 to 15:00. Younger children (3+) can enjoy the 'Voorleesclub – Walvissen aan wal' (Storytelling Club – Whales ashore), a session based on Nick Bland's book about whales and nature, held daily at 11:00 and 11:30. For older children (6+) and families, a 'Koningsvissen met Plastic Whale' event on April 28th offers a chance to help clean Amsterdam's canals by collecting plastic waste from the water, requiring a swimming diploma A. Additionally, a 'Kleur-doe-plaat Zeemonsters' (Sea Monsters Coloring Sheet) by Duiker Doris-tekenaar Kwennie Cheng is available, encouraging creative engagement with mythical sea creatures.

Admission and ticket notes

Entry to the museum is free with a museum entry ticket. Specific activities may require pre-registration or have age recommendations. The museum is closed on King's Day (April 27th).
