Jacques-François Rosart was a type designer active in Haarlem between 1740 and 1759, primarily creating typefaces for the Enschedé letterfoundry. Despite designing numerous beautiful fonts, his contributions were not fully recognized during his lifetime. This exhibition, 'Rosart, revival van een lettersnijder,' aims to rectify this by presenting a re-appreciation of his work. Contemporary typographers and researchers from the Rosartproject, including Michel Paré, Lukas Schneider, and Walda Verbaenen, have delved into Rosart's extensive body of work. Their research offers fresh perspectives on this talented self-taught artist, culminating in a digital rebirth of his letterforms, some of which are over 250 years old. The exhibition provides a unique opportunity to understand his legacy and witness the impact of his designs.
Entry to the exhibition is free. The exhibition is located in the Janskerk, the public center of the Noord-Hollands Archief, at Jansstraat 40 in Haarlem. Opening hours are Monday to Friday 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, and every third Saturday of the month from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
