Women on Paper: Exploring Pioneering Female Artists at the Rijksmuseum Exhibition

This exhibition showcases drawings, engravings, and pastels by enterprising women artists from the Rijksmuseum's Print Room collection. It highlights their pioneering contributions to art history across centuries, featuring both established and newly acquired works.

The 'Women on Paper' exhibition brings to the forefront the significant contributions of female artists throughout history, drawing from the Rijksmuseum's extensive Print Room collection. The display features a wide range of techniques, including prints, watercolours, pastels, and photographs, showcasing exquisite compositions and vibrant colours. Many of these artists were pioneers, forging new artistic paths with their courage and creativity, and their legacy continues to inspire. The exhibition includes important new acquisitions, such as Thérèse Schwartze’s pastel portrait of her niece, Thérèsia Ansingh. In response to growing interest in the role of women in art and history, this exhibition provides a platform for historical female artists who have long been active in various roles within the arts. It encourages a fresh look at women's contributions to the art world, from draughtswomen to print publishers. An audio tour, available via the Rijksmuseum smartphone app or a rental device, guides visitors through the display with insights from Ilona van Tuinen, head of the Print Room. The exhibition is an initiative of the Women of the Rijksmuseum project group, established to enhance the visibility of women within the museum's collection and programming.

Admission for adults is €22.50. Visitors aged 18 and under receive free admission. Friends of the Rijksmuseum also have free entry. Booking a start time is required for all visitors except Friends. The Rijksmuseum is wheelchair accessible and offers lifts on all floors.
