Exhibition summary

This exhibition explores the unique, heterogeneous nature of the BilbaoArte Collection through a curated selection of 55 works by 52 artists. The project challenges traditional display methods by presenting pieces in four distinct sections, inspired by Juan Mayorga's play 'La colección'.

Curatorial context

‘There Is No Coming Back from the collection. BA Collection’ is the second exhibition focused on the BilbaoArte Collection, produced within the framework of the 2nd Call for Curators. Curators Nerea Ayerbe and Jaime Cuenca present a project that reflects on the unique, heterogeneous nature of the collection, which does not focus on a specific medium, style, or generation but rather reflects the evolving production of resident artists over 27 years. The works are organized into four sections—‘The time between their things’, ‘Saving what is necessary’, ‘Something new in the others’, and ‘A secret masked by the collection’—which encourage plural interpretations. By utilizing a dense, variegated installation style reminiscent of Baroque galleries, the curators aim to broaden the context of each piece and invite public dialogue regarding the theoretical and vital implications of artistic collection and preservation.

Admission and ticket notes

Admission to the exhibition is free of charge. The exhibition is open to the public from Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00 to 14:00 and 16:00 to 20:00, and on Sundays and public holidays from 11:00 to 14:00 (closed on Mondays).
