Discover Contemporary Czech Video Art from the Kunsthalle Praha Collection at Berlin Art Week

This exhibition, part of Berlin Art Week, showcases a selection of contemporary Czech video art from the Kunsthalle Praha collection. It features established and emerging artists exploring themes of identity, memory, gender, and social constructs through diverse approaches to the moving image.

Presented as part of Berlin Art Week at Wilhelm Hallen, this exhibition offers a curated glimpse into the dynamic contemporary Czech art scene through video works from the Kunsthalle Praha collection. Featuring both established and emerging artists, the selection highlights varied artistic practices and approaches to the moving image, united by a common exploration of human identity through different lenses and temporal layers. Zbyněk Baladrán's 'Act of Repeating' (2005) delves into historical memory, while Ján Mančuška's 'Double (From True Story Series)' (2009) examines the tension between reality and staging. Markéta Magidová's 'Infamia' (2023) uses ancient Pompeii as a backdrop to explore social constructs, and Mark Ther's 'Villa?' (2011) thematizes homosexuality and family history within an evocative interwar villa setting. These works collectively offer diverse perspectives on identity, gender, and social narratives within contemporary Czech video art.
