Kunsthalle Praha is hosting 'The Unsettled Soul,' a significant exhibition by internationally acclaimed Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota, marking her first presentation in the Czech Republic. Running from November 28, 2024, to April 28, 2025, this exhibition invites visitors to contemplate the human condition, examining profound themes of life, death, and memory. Shiota is celebrated globally for her immersive installations, particularly her signature large-scale artworks crafted from thread, which serve as powerful metaphors for various forms of bonds and relationships. In 'The Unsettled Soul,' Shiota transforms two large gallery spaces at Kunsthalle Praha with four major installations, some created specifically for the venue. These works, such as 'Crossing Paths with Fate' inspired by Prague's Vltava River, 'The Heart in Your Home' exploring notions of belonging, 'Multiple Realities' using dresses as symbols of identity, and 'Silent Concert' centered around a burnt piano, invite viewers to reflect on their own experiences and perceptions. The exhibition also provides an overview of Shiota's artistic development, featuring films, archival materials, and a chronology of her career, allowing a comprehensive understanding of her unique artistic vision.
