Curatorial context

Deep Readings: Freund:innenschaft III is a workshop that critically engages with the concept of queer spaces and their relationship to capitalism. The session will analyze a collection of manifestos, pamphlets, and zines spanning from the 1970s to the 2020s, exploring how these materials illustrate queer spaces as sites of democratic potential and resistance against assimilation into mainstream capitalism and heteronormativity. The workshop aims to highlight the distinctions between 'acceptable' and 'unacceptable' queer existences and how spatial dimensions reveal these differences. It also addresses how queer spatial politics challenge broader systems of oppression, including racism, classism, and ableism, moving beyond mere inclusion to foster more radical, caring, and connected relationships. The workshop will be conducted primarily in English/Globish/Denglisch, with all texts provided in both English and German, allowing participants flexibility in discussion.
