This workshop explores the concept of 'friendship' as a resistant relationship in authoritarian times, delving into queer-anarchist approaches to desire and belonging. Participants will engage with texts by Kafka, Probyn, and Yaghoobifarah to examine how spaces of belonging can be created beyond dominant structures.
This event, 'Deep Readings: Freund:innenschaft IV', is a workshop focusing on the exploration of friendship as a potent force against authoritarianism. The session, titled 'Dem Totalitarismus zuwider: Das Andere Begehren, oder queer-anarchistische Beziehungsweisen' (Against Totalitarianism: The Other Desire, or Queer-Anarchist Relationships), invites participants to question how we desire and create "other spaces" when living through "authoritarian times." By engaging with texts from authors such as Elspeth Probyn, Franz Kafka, and Amir Hassan Yaghoobifarah, the workshop seeks to connect queer and migrant perspectives on belonging and desire. It highlights friendship as a source of "strength, courage, and joy," and a space for "care and comfort," challenging heteronormative and couple-normative societal expectations. The goal is to understand friendship as a resilient and subversive form of relationship, fostering spaces of belonging beyond oppressive structures.
