Exhibition summary

This 'Mikrofestival', titled 'Flucht in die Zukunft' (Escape into the Future), is a day-long rave event exploring ways to move beyond the present and the perceived lack of alternatives to current societal structures. It features discussions, film screenings, performances, and DJ sets aimed at envisioning a plurality of counter-proposals.

Curatorial context

The 'Mikrofestival: Flucht in die Zukunft' (Escape into the Future) is presented as a day-long rave event that critically examines the feeling of living in a time with no viable alternatives, often referred to as 'capitalist realism'. It proposes a political strategy of 'poking holes in the status quo' by fostering a plurality of diverse and even contradictory counter-proposals, united in queer solidarity, to allow various other worlds to shine through late-capitalist monotony. The event includes a screening of the film 'Une ile et une nuit' by Pirates de Lentillières, discussions on the 'abolition of time' by Simon Nagy and the political program of 'poking holes in the status quo' by Kilian Jörg, and a 'Situation Room' for collecting strategies for moving beyond the present. The artistic research project The ZoNE will explore traditional songs from Styria, Vienna, and South Africa to envision plural futures, culminating in a collective experience guided by Jaskaran Anand Singh through a rave that interweaves discursive content with an ecstatic dream of a new commons.
