Bijbels Museum in Amsterdam Spotlights Special Award Art and Inclusive Exhibitions
The Bijbels Museum (Cromhouthuizen), a cultural institution in Amsterdam known for its exhibitions on biblical themes and heritage within historic canal houses, recently played a key role in the selection process for the Special Award 2023-2024 art competition. This initiative supports and showcases the artistic talents of creators with disabilities, fostering greater participation in the arts.
The Special Award: Promoting Inclusive Art
The Special Award is organized by Special Arts, a national foundation dedicated to enhancing art and culture engagement for artists with disabilities. Through a diverse range of activities, Special Arts encourages these artists to develop their skills and present their work to a wider audience. The competition features monthly online exhibitions, curated by different teams.
For the 2023-2024 edition, Carolien Croon, Director of the Bijbels Museum, joined Wouter Prins, curator at partner Museum Krona, to select compelling artworks from the submissions. Their curated selection highlights art that speaks from the heart, revealing subconscious expressions and deep passions. As Croon and Prins noted, the works often feature simple yet refined forms, with accompanying words as powerful as the imagery itself, reflecting "the soul of our life." Where to See the Special Award Art
Beyond the online platform, selected works from the Special Award 2023-2024 will be displayed in physical exhibitions, offering visitors multiple opportunities to experience this unique collection.
A broader selection of the submitted works will be on view at the Cobra Museum in Amstelveen from July 19 to September 8, 2024. Following this, a dedicated selection of Special Arts pieces will become part of the "Uit het paradijs. Kunst, mythologie, psychologie" exhibition, hosted at Museum Krona in Uden, starting October 13, 2024. This collaboration underscores the Bijbels Museum's commitment to inclusive art and provides a platform for these distinctive voices to resonate with new audiences.
