Bijbels Museum (Cromhouthuizen) from Amsterdam Presents 'Zie mij. De Bijbel in foto’s' Exhibition in Friesland
The Bijbels Museum (Cromhouthuizen), a cultural institution known for its exhibitions on biblical themes and heritage within Amsterdam's historic canal houses, is expanding its reach by producing its first exhibition in Friesland. The new presentation, titled "Zie mij. De Bijbel in foto’s" (See Me. The Bible in Photographs), will be on display at the Groate Kerk in Sint Jacobiparochie from June 22 to September 22, 2024.
Exploring 'Zie mij. De Bijbel in foto’s': A New Perspective
This unique exhibition features the work of visual artist Caroline Waltman, who traveled to sixteen different countries, both within and outside Europe, to capture her compelling photographs. Waltman's collection offers a fresh interpretation of ancient biblical narratives. She pairs her images—encompassing still lifes, portraits, landscapes, and action shots—with relevant Bible verses.
To ensure broad appeal, the exhibition's accompanying Bible verses are presented in six languages, including Frisian. This linguistic and cultural diversity makes "Zie mij. De Bijbel in foto’s" accessible to a wide range of visitors.
The Venue: Groate Kerk in Sint Jacobiparochie
The exhibition is hosted by the Groate Kerk in Sint Jacobiparochie, a striking yellow landmark within its village and landscape. This historic church is owned by the Stichting Alde Fryske Tsjerken (Old Frisian Churches Foundation), an organization dedicated to the restoration and preservation of historically significant church buildings in the province of Fryslân, while also fostering public interest in these structures.
The Groate Kerk has been transformed into the Kultureel Sintrum De Groate Kerk (Cultural Centre The Groate Kerk), regularly hosting concerts, CD recordings, and various exhibitions. For more information about the venue, visitors can refer to its official website Groate Kerk.
The "Zie mij. De Bijbel in foto’s" exhibition at the Groate Kerk is open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from 1 PM to 5 PM, until its closing date on September 22, 2024.
