The event also marks the cinema return of Maas after nearly a decade, with the premiere of his new film, Amsterdamned II, scheduled for December 4.

Premiere of Amsterdamned II and Flodder Anniversary
A significant event within the retrospective is the premiere of Amsterdamned II, the anticipated sequel to Maas’s 1988 canal thriller, Amsterdamned. Featuring Huub Stapel once again in a leading role, the film's return to cinemas is expected to draw considerable interest.
The retrospective also celebrates the 40th anniversary of Flodder, a popular comedy that depicted the clash between working-class characters and a wealthy suburban community. This milestone will be marked with a special 35mm screening of Flodder on the opening night of the program, with additional viewings planned for January and February 2026.
Celebrating a Dutch Cinema Icon
Dick Maas carved out a unique space in Dutch cinema, championing genre films at a time when they were often undervalued. Through works like De lift (1983), Amsterdamned (1988), and the Flodder trilogy, he significantly impacted the Dutch film landscape with ambitious productions featuring elaborate stunts, substantial budgets, and complex special effects. Maas's hands-on approach extended to all aspects of filmmaking, including composing his own synthesizer music and establishing his production company, First Floor Features. His career also saw him venture into the international market with films such as Do Not Disturb (1999) and Down (2001).
Beyond the Retrospective: Exclusive Events
The Eye Filmmuseum program includes several unique events. A "Golden Earring Evening" on February 6 and 20, 2026, will showcase music videos Maas directed for the iconic Dutch rock band Golden Earring, including clips for "When the Lady Smiles" (1984) and "Twilight Zone" (1982). These screenings will be accompanied by Maas’s registration of Golden Earring's 1984 concert, "Live from the Twilight Zone."
Furthermore, on February 22, Maas will personally introduce a 4K restoration screening of his favorite film, Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange (1971), offering insights into the film that has inspired him.
