Eye Filmmuseum in Amsterdam Presents 'Garrett Bradley – Revolutions' Exhibition
The Eye Filmmuseum in Amsterdam is set to host the first European solo museum exhibition dedicated to the acclaimed US artist and Oscar-nominated filmmaker, Garrett Bradley. Titled 'Garrett Bradley – Revolutions,' this significant presentation runs from June 14 through September 7, 2025, offering a deep dive into Bradley's unique artistic vision.
Visitors are invited to explore a compelling blend of social commentary and artistic experimentation, as Bradley critically examines film history and the art of image-making from a contemporary viewpoint. Her work, which earned her the Eye Art & Film Prize in 2023, explores how visual culture shapes our understanding of the world, with a particular focus on representations of America.
The exhibition reflects Bradley's artistic progression toward abstraction and a more sculptural approach to her work. It encourages viewers to reflect on how social and cultural backgrounds influence our perceptions, shedding light on the complexities of representation and the mechanisms that form our self-image and views of others. More information about the exhibition can be found on the museum's website at eyefilm.nl/GarrettBradley.
The title 'Revolutions' alludes to various forms of change present in Bradley’s oeuvre, encompassing political shifts, natural cycles, and the transformative potential found in everyday acts of resistance. This exhibition is a collaborative effort between Eye Filmmuseum and Rebecca Matalon, Senior Curator at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston.
Bregtje van der Haak, Director of Eye Filmmuseum, highlights Bradley's courageous and visually striking work, which tackles themes of racism and exclusion with exceptional energy. Her practice often blends diverse media and archival materials, exploring topics such as the history of American citizens, the struggle for social justice, and profound human emotions.
Enhancing Your Visit: Publication, Films, and Talks
