Max Euwe Centrum (Chess Museum) in Amsterdam Announces Relocation and Donation Campaign
The Max Euwe Centrum, a dedicated chess museum in Amsterdam's Max Euweplein, is set to undergo a significant change by relocating its premises. After 32 years in its current spot, the museum is moving to a new space within the very same building, primarily due to a decision by the building's owner.
While the move keeps the beloved chess center within its familiar surroundings—effectively changing only its house number—the process presents substantial organizational and financial challenges. The Max Euwe Centrum, which honors the memory of Dutch former world champion Max Euwe, estimates the total costs for legal assistance, moving services, and redesigning the new space to be between 18,000 and 20,000 euros.
Supporting Amsterdam's Chess Heritage
The museum is launching a donation campaign to help cover these unexpected costs. For many years, the Max Euwe Centrum has relied on community support, especially through annual December donations. This year, the museum hopes for an exceptionally generous response from its patrons and the wider public to ensure a smooth transition and allow it to continue its role as a unique chess hub and a cherished museum.
Maintaining its presence in Max Euweplein is crucial for the center, as it ensures the enduring legacy of Max Euwe and continues to offer visitors an engaging experience exploring chess history, players, and interactive elements.
