Museum van de Geest | Dolhuys in Haarlem Welcomes Visitors on Tuesdays
Starting June 3, Museum van de Geest | Haarlem is extending its opening hours to include Tuesdays. This addition provides more opportunities for visitors to explore its unique exhibitions focused on mental health and the human mind. To celebrate this new opening day, guests presenting an entry ticket on any Tuesday in June will receive a 20% discount on purchases at the museum cafe, Thuys.
Journey into the Mind at Dolhuys
Located within the historic 700-year-old Dolhuys building, Museum van de Geest offers a profound exploration of the human mind. The museum encourages visitors to reflect on their own minds and those of others through a collection of personal narratives, scientific insights, contemporary art, and existential questions.
An interactive audioguide enhances the experience, guiding visitors through the ancient walls and prompting contemplation with questions such as "What defines your mind?" and "Are you your inner self or your outer self?". The journey also introduces various perspectives from scientists, philosophers, modern thinkers, and artists.
Exploring History: The 'Who Cares?' Exhibition
Visitors can currently experience the temporary exhibition, "Who Cares? Vergeten slachtoffers en verborgen helden van de zorg in WOII" (Forgotten victims and hidden heroes of care in WWII). This exhibition delves into the history of healthcare during the Second World War, using unique historical imagery and artistic interpretations. It sheds light on the often-overlooked stories of victims and heroes within psychiatric and intellectual disability care during that period.
Commemorating 80 years of freedom, the museum has further enriched this exhibition with the "Route naar Vrijheid" (Route to Freedom), an immersive path that illustrates how personal freedom often begins with an open mind.
