The Vereniging Museumhaven Amsterdam is set to host its 29th annual Yzeilen event on September 2, 2023. This maritime gathering celebrates the enduring legacy of historic commercial vessels and traditional Dutch sailing ships, including klippers, tjalks, and aken. The event highlights the joy of sailing these magnificent historical craft and sharing that experience with a wider audience.
Experience Historic Vessels on Amsterdam's Waters
The Yzeilen event serves multiple purposes within the maritime community. It offers an excellent opportunity for novice sailors to gain experience and refine their skills aboard a historic ship. For seasoned sailors, it provides a chance for friendly competition and to measure their abilities against peers. Participants can also vie for the coveted IJ-bell, a special recognition for those who choose to compete.
Spectators will have the chance to witness these impressive ships navigate the waters, with the fastest lap often taking place near the historic Pampus island. Whether you're interested in participating or simply enjoying the spectacle, the regatta offers a unique glimpse into Amsterdam's rich nautical heritage. Those interested in joining the fleet can register for the event.
