This major group exhibition, planned for mid-October 2026 to end of March 2027, explores the multifaceted nature of collaborative artistic practices. It examines how collective work generates new artistic forms, visual languages, and methodologies, and investigates how institutions can represent such practices.
Every two years, the Stedelijk Museum organizes a major group exhibition that serves as a platform for new collection acquisitions. The 2026 edition will be dedicated to collaborative artistic practices, posing questions about how collective work generates new artistic forms, visual languages, methodologies, and vocabularies. It will also explore the new relations created between makers, and between makers and non-makers.
The exhibition will encompass diverse forms of collective work, ranging from artworks and social design to manifestos, printed matter, archival projects, and workshops. The Stedelijk is particularly interested in collective working methods, outlooks, and attitudes that reshape the arts and aims to explore how institutions can effectively present such practices, especially those that critique or move away from institutional frameworks. An open call for artists will be published in Fall 2025.
