Curatorial context

During Bachweek, the Luther Museum presents a special concert titled 'Buiten Bach Om' (Beyond Bach), offering an excursion into other great music. The program highlights Schubert's monumental Octet, a piece not frequently performed, brought to life by top musicians from the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Klif Kwartet in the museum's beautiful church hall. This concert serves as a departure from exclusively Bach-focused performances, introducing a new sound and a commissioned work. Specifically for this event, Anne-Maartje Lemereis, Componist des Vaderlands (Composer of the Netherlands), has been commissioned to write a concluding piece that bridges the music of Schubert and Bach. The Fantasie Ensemble, featuring violists Diet Tilanus and Svenja Staats, violist Lili Maijala, cellist Örs Kőszeghy, bassist Jordi Carrasco Hjelm, clarinetist Olivier Patey, bassoonist Andrea Cellacchi, and hornist Fons Verspaandonk, will perform the works. The artistic leader, Diet Tilanus, is a dedicated violinist with a passion for chamber music and has been the artistic director of Bachweek since 2022.
