The art project 'Limitless Content' showcases twelve transparent suitcases, each filled by different artists with ideas and materials centered around the theme 'The Journey'. Originally initiated in 1983, the suitcases have undergone conservation and restoration by university students.
Museum Het Schip presents the art project 'Limitless Content', a collaboration with the Netherlands Cultural Heritage Agency (RCE) and the University of Amsterdam. Initiated in 1983 by the Dutch Art Foundation (NKS), the project features twelve transparent suitcases designed by John den Besten, filled by commissioned artists with ideas and materials on the theme 'The Journey'. The artists were constrained by the size and construction of the suitcases. Twelve artists were selected from 100 submissions: Klaus Peter Boegel, Boudewijn Corstiaensen, Michael Gibbs, Theo van de Goor, Heinz Georg Holtappels, Ronald in 't Hout, Ko de Jonge, Wijo Koek, Bob Lens, Johan Oskam, Flavio Pons, and Roel QoQo.
The transparent suitcases, part of the RCE's national collection, were conserved and restored by first-year master's students specializing in Contemporary Art conservation at the University of Amsterdam. The aim was to stabilize the artworks for future exhibitions, preserving their physical integrity and the artists' original intentions. The exhibition displays these suitcases, described as "full of memories, desires, ideas and ideals," in the museum's post office, surrounded by postal items.
